Is short hair more manageable for african american women?

I have had shoulder length hair for quite some time now but I am terrible at keeping it kept up. I usually get relaxers but i've noticed my hair breaks off so easily now that I'm thinking its time to go natural. I'd love to know if there are any short (not like to the scalp, just not enough to make a ponytail), really manageable hair cuts for black women that don't require a lot of up keep. If you know any curly styles that would be a super bonus (I have a rounder face so curls look really good on me)!

Short hairstyles are not for everyone. Depending upon the style of the cut, and how long it takes to train your hair maintenance and upkeep can be time consuming and/or costly. It is certainly doable.



I too have shoulder length hair, and I don't like to do it. So to maintain it and keep it healthy, in the wintertime I get braids. Once the weather gets warmer I opt for hairstyles such as straw sets which are tight curls which can last from 2-3 weeks. Or a spiral set which last about 2 weeks. Styling my hair like that minimizes the damage from heat and harsh styling products.

Right now, I'm in the transition to going natural because my hair was breaking off because I could not take care of it. I think that short hair, just from experience is not more manageable because I didn't know what to do with my hair. If you have a plan on how to do your hair and that you need to get done, then go for it and cut your hair short. If you don't then wait.
you need to talk to a hair dresser. they can show you pics. the hair style hollie berry has is great. it shows Independence and sassy.
