I need to know what I need to do to my hair if its a dark brown, and I want a real light brown color. I heard that I have to bleach my hair first,is this true? I don't want to damage my hair, but need someone to give me step by step on everything I need to do to get a temporary light brown hair color and what products to use. ThanksTemporary hair color for black women?
Yes you will need to bleach your hair first, applying a light brown dye to dark brown hair will acheive exactly nothing - dye is not like paint, it is ';see through'; - a bit like a stained glass window - and you cannot make it lighter by adding yet another layer of colour.

You need a hair bleach - but buy one which is for re-colouring afterwards - depending on where you live, there will be different brand names - but if you ask at the counter they should be able to help you.

If you have a general shop nearby that specialised in products for black folks (magic hair products, specialist fruit / veg etc etc) then they might well be worth asking - as they are likely to be able to suggest a product designed for the job.

DO NOT just use a peroxide bleach of unknown strength etc - not only can it damage hair if you then colour straight afterwards but the dye can also be affected - and may even go a greenish shade - DEFINATELY not what you are after.

As for a temporary shade, you can use a wash in / wash-out hair dye BUT the bleaching will be permement until you either grow it out OR over-dye it a darker shade again.

ps: There *IS* in the UK a product which IS more like a paint - it is usually used for just highlighting the very ends of hair - and washes out when you next shower. This comes in a variety of colours but I think they are more vivid than ';natural tones'; - eg:L purple, red, amber etc These colourants CAN be used on dark brown / black hair - but they will NOT look natural - though they may look great.Temporary hair color for black women?
you can't temporarily lighten hair, it is permanent. almost everything can damage your hair, flat iron, blow drying.

sorry, you can't temporarily lighten the hair. you don't have to bleach it but it does have to be lightened. You can use color but depending on how dark your hair is and how light you want to go it may be best to leave it to the pros if you don't want orange hair. it is very hard to give you advice without seeing you hair. good luck!!

sorry I can't be more help
It depends on if you want an all over color or if you want to highlight your hair.

if you want an all over hair color, you can buy a lighter color. But most of them are permanent. You may want to ask the stylist for a temporary color or if you are going to do it yourself, you can find out what they have available at the supply store for temporary color.

If you want highlights you will have to bleach your hair in the areas that you want the highlights to be. But their are some highlighting kits that you can use that will instruct you on how long to keep the lifter on for the change that you are looking for.
if your hair is dark brown the light brown will not show up...also if you try to dye it too light so you can see it you will be left with orange hair..so basically the only way to do it is to bleach it and your right that is very damaging...so i think if you really want lighter hair you should try getting some light highlights so that not all of you hair will be damaged
