Um, I have natural hair. Right now my hair is braided. If I want to straighten my hair I get it hot combed, flat ironed and blow-dried by my stylist. Why Should/Do black women use chemicals for their hair?..?
Are you insinuating that black women use chemical treatments on their hair to fit into society, while completely disregarding any negative affects that those chemicals would have on their offspring?
If this is what this question is going after, I assure you that it is completely off base. Black women color treat and relax their hair for aesthetic purposes, and there has been no viable scientific studies to directly relate chemical relaxers to deformities in offspring.
Relaxers have no more a damaging affect, if any, as compared to say sun tanning which has an undeniable relation to skin cancers.
Every society alters their features, not just blacks. If there were reliable evidence that these chemicals harmed fetuses while in utero, than I am certain that African American women would discontinue their use Immediately. Why Should/Do black women use chemicals for their hair?..?
i don't use them, but some use them to chemically keep their hair straight and not let it curl easy.
and so they can comb their hair much easier.
see the thing is most of the people using the chemicals don't actually know whats in it, so the dangers are unknown, the only dangers we know about is the broken hair. which is enough of a hazard for me not to use chemicals to straighten my hair.
my friend went to a salon and got her hair chemically straightened, weeks later her hair thinned out and now its really thin and she can't thicken it up
uh oh another question about black women and their hair...
should black women use it? probably not. but it's just a hairstyle, not a major life decision. me using chemicals in my hair doesn't say anything about me as a person or about how i feel about being black. i'm happy in my skin.
pregnant women usually stop using any chemicals while pregnant (or they should!)
Well...er...umm many black men would go nuts if all of us went natural! And many black women will talk about you like a dog too! When I went natural, I had to deal with a bit of stupidity-from black folks, not white folks.
I think many of them feel slightly embarrassed when they see us exhibiting certain nonwhite features-our hair being the main one I think.
Personally, I think we should all do it!!! Come on girls!!! Throw away that box of dark and lovely LOL!!! I'm serious but I know that is a long way from coming.
I see it more and more everyday though in big cities...it's like a slow revolution...black women are starting to stand up and say..'; I DONT HAVE TO LOOK WHITE TO BE BEAUTIFUL!'; Say it loud girls!!! LOL!!!
I hope the people writing books about black people by using yahoo answers material are getting enough material!!! Lord the amount of questions about black women on here are very high. Either sombody is writing a book or Black women are like America's little secretly obsessed about thing, and I don't mean that in a positive way.
Edit: ok, not all features-they obviously like the butts, but, I think they feel almost as self conscious about our hair as we do.
actually its much harder to manage they need to do it every 4 weeks when they hair grows out flat iron everyday they cant get it wet or anything its horrible it makes their hair fall out idk why anyone uses it oo wait i know bc society tells them they have ';bad nappy'; hair and that straight hair is beautiful...but to me natural is beautiful
and for any smart asses im mixed so my hair can become straight w/o a flat iron just a tight braid or two
It's truly awful for the hair, I actually gave my relaxer up and I love my new hair. The reason why I originally got one is because my friend had one, and I wanted one too, and it is on a day to day basis easier to manage. But I realized once I let my hair go natural, I really had more confidence about myself.
I use them because i want to, Your question is not a proven fact. I know hundreds upon hundreds of black women that relax their hair and have perfectly healthy kids, Only Idiots believe everything they read (dont be so gullible.)
Im guessing your not a black female so you need to shut it %26amp; deal with it
We can do whatever we want to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
because 'u will be less accepted by society' and self hatred runs deep
how ever i dont use chemicals in my hair
