This is a question about the movie ';Good Hair'; coming up for black women?

How come when black women do something, it gets national attention?


Black women have been perming, dying their hair for centuries, so why all of a sudden a black man (chris rock) is going to make a movie and degrade black women by saying we're trying to be ';white';.


I don't want to be white when I have my hair straight, I want to have a similar look with my hair to Native Americans. I don't want/ desire white people's oily stringy hair, eek.


How come we never hear anyone complain about white women getting tans, botox and curl their hair? Even after and before the movie black women will still continue to get weaves and wigs, right?


Good hair supposedly is mixed hair and white european hair..its all some bull, i see white girls with dye damage and mixed people with un-controllable frizzy hair.


I've seen balck girls with beautiful long natural hair all the way down to their waist.


So what's really ';good hair';?


I'm sick of the media laughing at black women and making us look like imbeciles.


How come they also moan about black women getting weaves?


obv, some black women can't wear their hair natural because of comments like ';african slave'; or ';nappy headed'; and white peopel are intimidated by black natural texture.


Agreed? Chris Rock is also racist and sexist, just seeing the KIll the messenger movie he did last year blew me away by saying alot of black women have ';attitudes'; ';trying to look white '; ';white women are best inbed'; and other nonsense? He's a comedian. You obviously take his comedy too seriously. Is he married to a white woman? No. He got the idea for ';Good Hair'; from his daughter who asked him ';How come I don't have good hair'; Why would he make a film about making his own daughter looking ugly and stupid? He's is trying to teach about self love and acceptance. That's something we lack in the black community. It's an issue that's been going on for years that has divided us.

I agree with both of you. You know bm complain about sista's wearing weaves, getting perms but then will date a white woman who does the same. They complain that we are over weight, but will date a white woman and try and get her to get our body parts through plastic surgery.

and idk why the make movies like that. i guess they try to discover the reason behind black women doing stuff with their hair. but they cant solve it because

I haven't heard about ';Good Hair';. It doesn't sound like something I would watch.





I AM looking forward to ';Black Dynamite';. It's a Blaxploitation revival and it has an excellent cast (including Jimmie Walker). I don't understand why it isn't getting any press.
We live in very eurocentric society. A lot of times we do want to look more white because we still have that slave mentality. We are taught at very young age (usually not on purpose) that white features areore beautiful

im actually looking forward to seeing this documentary. i think it'll be interesting. he has actually been working on this for 2 years now. and the whole reason he did this is because one of his daughters walked up to him crying and asked him,'; daddy, why don't i have good hair?';
