First of all, no this is in no way a racist or offensive question.
Second of all, I know white women wear weaves too, but it was shown that more black women wear weaves than white women, I was just wondering why? Do their hair lines receed faster or something? I'm genuinely just curious as to why. I'm sure their natural hair is gorgeous aswell so why the weave? %26amp; Yes I realise not all of them wear them. It was just shown more black women wear them than white women. I'm just wondering why exactly. Why does this many black women wear weaves for their hair?
Some black women wear weaves to acheive a certain look. Long hair that white women have, we sometimes cant acheive because our hair is much drier than yours, and cant retain as much moisture. Also, with weaves, you can pull off certain looks that we cant do with our natural hair. It's all about preference... some black women like myself, hate weaves and only rock our natural hair. Why does this many black women wear weaves for their hair?
well, there is no one in the world that can tell you exactly why most black woman wear weave. only they know why they wear weave, maybe it is because they want a longer and fuller look or maybe hair loss. there is so many reasons, but white women's hair grows a tiny bit faster than most black women's hair . so if a white woman and a black woman cut their hair up to the ear, most likely the white woman's hair would grow faster and the black woman would want to put extensions in her hair into it grows out where she wants it.

im not trying to be racist in anyway and i also don't want to offend anyone. so who ever reads this i hope i didn't offend you in any way
haha i'm black and i don't take this question offensive at all... Of course, I'm a male, but i'm surrounded by a lot of females who wear weaves.... I think alot of it is for fashion purposes.... They think a weave will look good, which is fine.... Or some people wear it because their natural hair is just really bad (not trying to offend anyone)
A lot of black women's hair don't grow to a certain length. That's one of the reasons why they have weaves. Other black women wear weaves for ';fashion'; and texture. My African American friend's nature hair is very short and thin so she wears weaves because her nature hair isn't as ';fabulous'; as white women's hair.
its cuz black women hair grow different then white womens i guess.
and some have short hair and weave helps them get longer hair
plus some black girls want different color hairs beacuse their hair can't be dyed so they but different color weave in
because unlike others their hair doesn't grow as quick.
that's your answer!!

Wow so many people pretending there is not a problem with how many Black women wear weave. Open your eyes people. This is a good question that every black woman should be asking. Don't let those in denial stop you from questioning all the nappy hatred.
1. Black hair IS fragile, a weave is a good way to switch up styles without damaging hair underneath. BUT African hair isn't so fragile anybody NEEDS a weave, my hair grows just fine without weave. I just need a bottle of conditioner, water, a wide toothed comb, shampoo, some leave in conditioner, and bobby pins. It CAN be worn loose and grow but weave and braids help. There is a reason braids are popular in the black community. They are called ';protective hairstyles';. Africans have been using weaves and braiding hair for millenia, the look of them has changed however. But of course the ';necessity'; of weave is just another symptom of a larger problem, many of us are not taught how to care for our hair as this knowledge no longer gets passed from generation to generation as it once has. As a result we call our hair ';unmanagble'; and burn it with irons and caustic chemicals and wonder why it won't grow. *Shaking head*
2. Weave used to be about achieving a more African look, now it's about achieving the hair of a different people. No matter how much some black people relax their hair or hot comb it, let's get real. It never really looks like white people hair, it looks like napptural hair that's been straightened. A weave or lace front wig made up of Asian hair can achieve that look though.
3. We have been brainwashed into believing our own hair texture is not beautiful and manageable. Nappy is a bad word to black people. It holds hurt in it becuase we have been indoctrinated since slavery to hate our hair, that it was something bad and ugly. So fake blond Korean or synthetic hair sewn onto our head is prettier than our natural hair? Whatever. Escape the hair matrix people.
4. But many black women still believe it. I wish they would wake up and realize that our hair is beautiful and powerful. People go out of their way to hate on our hair, they are so jealous and scared that black women will one day embrace our innate beauty and they might pale in comparison. Stand up sisters! Watch the documentary ';Good Hair'; by Chris Rock which should coming out on HBO soon for more information about this anti-nappy mentality that started with slavery.
5. Which leads me to my next point that includes both relaxing and wearing weave. We felt we had to assimilate into society. And there have been instances where natural hair and styles held someone back in the workplace. Some black people don't want to admit it, but assimilation and trying to fit in plays a big part. Black people are the only people ON EARTH with natural nappy hair. We are truly blessed, but it does set us apart.
6. Many black women have damaged their own hair beyond repair with chemicals and heat and are using weave to cover embarassingly thinning, broken strands from years of weave, flat ironing, and relaxers. Just truth. It's a vicious cycle. Weave can lead to traction alopecia which leads to more weave.

These are all the reasons I used to wear weave.
I am now natural and I 鈾?my nappy hair.
Ha! Yea- its true that black women wear weaves! Because I know I do and most people in my family do too! But we don't wear them because our hair is damaged and short because believe me that is def not the case. I wear them because I can't leave my hair in one style or else my ends start splitting even more!! Unlike white people if we comb or brush our hair as much as u do it will lose moisture break off and fall out!! I also wear weaves because im a model! As a model when im in a fashion show they braid cut curl color press and do everything imaginable to the hair to make it ';out of this world';! I don't want them doing all that to my hair!! That's where I first wore a weave and I loved it!!
